Caterpillar

Description

As the noise pollution slowly dissipates and silence begins to take shape, my ear is drawn toward the
slighter sounds in greater details. Contemplating a caterpillar as it clings to a leaf in my garden I begin to
wonder how something so small and vulnerable might experience this newfound, yet atavistic
soundscape. Perhaps a sensory excess of sound and vibration, or maybe the primal stirrings of curiosity
and trepidation. Free from competing with the myriad sounds accompanying our industrial/ information
age, natures sounds quickly begin to reassert themselves. The material used within the work is
constructed from a single recording across an Autumn day in the court-yard garden of my home, Sydney,
Australia, 2020
